Spite House Picture Gallery & Framing

Vintage Art, Home Decor and More

Business owner Mary LaMorte originally started Spite House Picture Gallery and Framing out of her Virginia City home, in the historic Spite House, where the business got its namesake. Today the shop is located on lower C Street, below The Roasting House.

Spite House specializes in refurnishing vintage frames for art and photographs, bringing them back to their former glory. LaMorte also creates her own beautiful rustic frames, including frames sourced from local barn wood in Nevada.

LaMorte has a passion for uncovering and collecting historical photographs and art of Virginia City that provides a look at what life used to be like in The Comstock throughout history. She enjoys tracking down unique historic items like certificate deposits, handwritten letters and business notices, and selecting a frame to match the time period.

The vintage framed art and photographs that Spite House creates blends with the aesthetic of businesses in the historic district of Virginia City and you can see their work displayed around the city, including at Mackay Mansion, Sawdust Steakhouse, the Bucket of Blood Saloon.

Visitors can discover unique gifts for friends and family at Spite House Picture Gallery & Framing. Find art supplies including sketchbooks, watercolor workbooks, and palettes. The shop also has home decor and house plants creatively potted in unexpected items. Come by often, you'll never know what might find.
